  • Is this illegal for an employer to do?

Posted by admin on September 2nd, 2010 and filed under walgreen company and employees | 7 Comments »

I was working at Dollar Tree for a little while and hours were cut to the point that 20 hours @ $7 an hour was not enough anymore to make rent. I got a job at Walgreens. This big corporation gave this little company a week to get a schedule together and said they would work around the Dollar Tree schedule. The store manager at my store completely refused to work around the walgreen schedule and said he wouldn’t cooperate. He then scheduled me for 2 days I’m supposed to be at my new job which gives me a lot more hours and more pay. Everyone at the store knows I’m his best employee since I get things done and use my ton of energy to get it done (I’m not bragging here, this is what has been seen and stated by them on their own). I personally hate it, but you’d think he’d give his best employee a chance. Not only that, he’s constantly complaining about everything and can’t seem to find a nice word to say to anyone. One manager worked 6 days this week for 12 hours a day, even though she has 4 kids and a husband at home. She’s usually happy and making people laugh, but today she was in tears, sobbing in the office, because he can’t seem to appreciate anything anyone does. Is there anything legal I can do if he decides to fire me since he had a lot of prior notice and simply refused to give them a schedule as well as following their’s? The way he talks, he expects even those getting 5 hours tobe available at all times just in case he needs to call them in (which won’t happen). What can we do? We have to survive, too, and we have families we need to support as well.

Lady, I feel you on this one b/c it is legal, albeit, immoral.

I had worked 8 years on a job. When corporate over-time was forbidden, my manager got me an exemption from the president of the company just b/c I did most of his work. And made him look good at it. He was one of the most unscrupulous people I heave ever met.
One of my clients in another state gave me the best advice I ever took. He told me, "This man is all image. One day, he’s going to be called to the mat to show substance & he’s not going to have it & he’ll be brought down. Unfortunately, he’s very good at his game & this is not going to happen before you lose your reputation. It’s taken you 8 years to develop a reputation of honesty & integrity. He can ruin all of that in one day & it will take you a lot longer than 8 years to build that back up. I hate to lose you, but my advice it to get out of there, now, with your name intact so that you can find some type of job that will pay well with your good reputation."

It was one month before quarterly reports. I gave a 2 weeks notice, but said I will try & stay longer if needed. After 2 weeks, I saw that my boss was doing nothing to replace me (he did call me into a private meeting to get me a 25 CENT raise, but that was between me & him – HAH!). So I saw that I was going to leave & be bad mouthed for not completing reports. I told him that an unexpected job came through earlier than planned & I need to stick with my 2 week notice. I got out of there.

Well, his fall came 8 months later. And it was BAD! I think my staying there enabled him to keep his job & thus continue to treat others with such disrespect.

Count your self lucky to let go of him. Take whatever schedule Wal-mart gives. Keep looking for another job & inform them that the only condition is that they will have to give you a schedule that Wal-mart can work around before you are hired. I really think that getting out from under this bad boss is a blessing in disguise. Economic times are tough enough without having the emotional stress of this guy costing you money for stress related health matters. Be free.

    selling walgreen stock?

Posted by admin on September 2nd, 2010 and filed under walgreen stock | 5 Comments »

my husband has stocks that his mother signed over to him. She bought them years ago when she worked for walgreens. My question is–if he were to sell any of the shares how would he find out the cost basis on them for taxes since they are probably from 40 years ago. we have no orginial paperwork on them to see what she paid for them when she bought them.

Your cost basis changes only if stock is inherited from death of original owner. A gift or transfer while your mother in law is alive, will not change the basis. Try BigCharts on the internet. They also will display a spit-adjusted price. You can get historical data there. Your best bet is to go back and approximate the time and take an average. It will be hardly anything. The good news is that if you cannot find it, the IRS probably cannot either. Unfortunately the burden of proof is on you if you are audited about that (highly unlikely). If you are under a lot of scrutiny from the IRS anyway, I would probably just pay the taxes and use no basis. That is very defensible. Your split adjusted basis is probably .20 to .25 cents/share, so the extra taxes you would pay using no basis would amount to less than 4 cents /share. That, to me seems like a small price to pay to KNOW you will never get in any trouble over the deal.

how much does a pharmacy tech make to start at walgreen’s in Louisville ky?

Posted by admin on September 2nd, 2010 and filed under walgreen | 1 Comment »

I have worked for Walgreen’s for almost 15 years as a service clerk. I would like to do more and make more money. It is hard to live on my salary. I went back to school but have not been able to find anything else at this time. I thought I would study for the certification test and become a pharmacy tech. I was wondering how much it starts out at.

If not certified, about $9 an hour and if certified, about $10 an hour. The max salary is about $17 an hour. walgreens will pay for certification classes and the exam.

    2 REVIEW: A Moisturizer That Prevents/Diminishes Stretch Marks?!NADINOLA Cocoa Butter Cream $0.99 – http://www.walgreens.com/store/catalog/Moisturizing/Cocoa-Butter-Cream/ID=prod7185&navCount=0&navAction=push-product

Only available at Walgreens or Walgreens.com

    Customer Review at walgreens.com:
I have used this cocoa butter as my little beauty secret for 15 years. I discovered this when I was 16 and worked for walgreens, and have used it everyday since. This little 4oz of heaven is better than the most expensive creams. It is a perfect moisturizer under make-up and I always put it on at night before bed. I am 33 and have no wrinkles! Everyone tells me I look 21, and I owe it all to this cocoa butter(maybe some to good DNA)…Genius! I wish it was available at ALL walgreens or if more stores supplied it…I always buy it in bulk when I find it. The perfect cream for a dollar, it’s awesome, the key is to use it twice a day every day…it’s worth it!
